Martin Adjei Mensah-Korsah, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Techiman South, has officially been declared the winner of the constituency’s election on December 21, following a disputed vote count from the December 7 elections.
The results saw him beat his closest competitor, Dr. Christopher Baasongti Beyere of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who obtained 43,429 votes while he secured 46,663.
The victory, which has been confirmed after careful review, brings a sense of resolution to a contentious election process marked by disruptions and discrepancies.
In an earlier interview with Asempa FM, Mensah-Korsah recounted how he had been leading by over 7,000 votes after collating results from 141 polling stations.
However, chaos ensued when NDC supporters disrupted the process, raising doubts about the validity of the results. Despite these challenges, Mensah-Korsah maintained his confidence in his clear lead, stating, “I was leading by over 7,000 votes after collating 141 polling stations.”
He further emphasized the accuracy of the NPP collation, which showed his victory was indisputable.
“I have evidence on my pink sheet,” he explained, stressing that his team had meticulously calculated the results to ensure their correctness.
“We were diligent, and to safeguard the process, we duplicated the pink sheets, keeping a copy for our records before submitting the original to the Electoral Commission.”
Mensah-Korsah also pointed to the turmoil created by the disruptions as a contributing factor to the discrepancies. He added, “There was confusion during the process, but we knew we had a clear victory.”
This declaration puts an end to the uncertainty surrounding the Techiman South election, allowing the elected MP to move forward with his plans for the constituency.
