ORAL Team set up because corrupt public officers are covering their tracks—Ablakwa

Chairman of Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL), Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has disclosed that President-elect John Dramani Mahama set up a team of five to handle his anti-corruption drive because there were reports people were covering their tracks.

John Dramani Mahama’s Transition Team announced on December 18, 2024, that the president-elect has put together a team to receive complaints on acts of corruption.

The team led by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa is supported by four others and is expected to help John Dramani Mahama fulfil his commitment to the people of Ghana.

The announcement has sparked debate as to the legality of the team.

But speaking to Accra-based Joy News in an interview, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa indicated that the decision to setup the team was to help bring corrupt individuals to book because some individuals have been reported to be covering their backs.

He indicated that some of the persons involved in very glaring corrupt acts are leaving the country while others are covering up their tracks.

“There are increasing reports that people are trying to cover their tracks, people are trying to backdate, they are trying to ratify their wrongdoing. We already have a situation where people have fled the jurisdiction if you followed my latest expose, those involved in the ambulance scandal. Steven Okoro left on the 26th of November before the election, and then you have Vivian Oppong Kyekyeku, another chieftain in the whole $108 million ambulance heist; she also has left, and then you have third-person Frank Agyekum, who has also left.

The president-elect thought that it was really crucial for this team to be put together so that immediately the evidence-gathering could commence and then what can also be salvaged because remember that once people start giving you information, whistleblowers bring information to bare then you are able to take the necessary steps urgently and block the gaps, and so there are many advantages with what the president-elect has done,” he explained to Joy News in an interview.
