Deputy General Secretary for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Mustapha Gbande has explained that if John Dramani Mahama wins the 2024 elections, Makola Market will be run for 24 hours.
He indicates that unlike recently when there is traffic just because people have to make their purchases during the day, that will be a thing of the past.
According to him, the NDC intends to station security personnel and light up the city to allow for the market to run throughout the night.
Speaking on Accra-based TV3, Mustapha Grande indicated, “We intend to beef up the security so that people feel safe and secure. So people who buy things from the Makola market will feel secure to wake up at night and go to Makola to buy their wares.
We will improve the lighting system in the country in order to allow visibility and security so that people who come from Bolga to buy at Makola can get to Accra late at night, buy their wares, and by morning they are headed for Bolga,” he said.
Also, he indicated that Banks will work 24/7 so market women can make withdrawals at dawn or in the night at the banking hall so that they don’t have to carry their money from Bolgatanga to Accra.
24-hour economy being explained by the deputy general secretary of the largest opposition party in Ghana. I’m mesmerized. This is a good policy. Let’s rally behind this. 🤭 pic.twitter.com/QM8VAkRSzh
