Legal luminary and former Director General of the Ghana School of Law, Dr. Kwaku Ansah Asare, has criticized Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, describing his recent actions as a “disgrace” and calling for his removal.
Speaking on TV3, Dr. Ansah Asare questioned the legitimacy of declaring a former Finance Minister as “wanted” without first exhausting legal protocols.
“I’m surprised that the Special Prosecutor can publicly declare a Finance Minister as wanted. Has he invited him for questioning? Has he explored all legal avenues before resorting to this dramatic move?” he asked.
He accused Agyebeng of being influenced by political forces, asserting that his actions were a deliberate attempt to embarrass the former minister.
“To declare a former Finance Minister a fugitive is a very serious matter. It’s an act of disgrace to the nation,” he said.
Dr. Ansah Asare expressed disappointment in what he described as selective justice, questioning why the Special Prosecutor had not taken similar action in previous high-profile cases.
“Where was the Special Prosecutor when people raised concerns over the National Cathedral and other financial scandals? He did nothing. But now, suddenly, this is a priority?” he argued.
Calling for Agyebeng’s removal, he stated: “If anyone should be declared wanted, it should be the Special Prosecutor himself for dereliction of duty. He should be relieved of his position.”
