Ashanti Reg. Minister announces key decisions on Kejetia Market Phase 1

Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has made three key decisions on the state of the Kejetia Market.

This was after he visited the market to inspect the progress of work there.

He hopes to brief the President on the state of the market to ensure that the shortfalls are dealt with.

However, before this, he has outlined three key decisions to address the challenges emanating from the market.

In a post on social media sharing these steps, he said, “On behalf of John Dramani Mahama, I visited Kejetia Market, starting with Phase II, where I inspected the progress of work. My objective was to get a first-hand impression of the status of construction to properly brief H.E. John Dramani Mahama on the timelines and logistical requirements necessary for its completion.

From there, I moved to Phase I, which is currently in use but faces significant management challenges that require urgent intervention.

Following my assessment, three key decisions have been made regarding Phase I:

1️⃣ Encroachment Clearance: Immediate steps will be taken to clear encroachers at the entrance of the facility to ensure smooth movement for traders and enhance safety, especially in emergency situations.

2️⃣ Restoration of the Burnt Eastern Wing: Work will soon begin on rehabilitating the eastern wing, which was damaged by fire on March 15, 2023, but has since been left unattended.

3️⃣ Emergency Meeting on Fire & Sanitation Issues: Due to persistent fire risks, sanitation concerns, and key management challenges, an emergency meeting has been scheduled for Thursday at the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) to address these pressing issues.

The well-being and safety of traders and the smooth operation of Kejetia Market remain a top priority. We will continue to work towards solutions that benefit all stakeholders.
