Sam George has revealed that he refused to apologize to President Akufo-Addo, the Chief Justice, and Vice President Bawumia during his vetting process, despite pressure to do so.
The Ningo-Prampram MP and Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation stated that he was given a prepared text to read as an apology in exchange for smooth approval by consensus, but he declined.
“They wanted me to apologize to President Akufo-Addo, the Chief Justice, and Dr. Bawumia, and I asked myself—apologize for what? For words that I deeply believed in at the time I wrote and still believe in?” he questioned in an interview on Joy News monitored by MyNewsGH.
He asserted that his statements reflected the sentiments of many Ghanaians who had suffered financial losses due to government policies.
“If we say that Ghanaians feel they’ve stolen the purse, those who were hurt by the DDEP, who got the haircut, those who have died as a result of the pain and the lack of ability to buy their medication, they hold that view as well,” he argued.
Despite the risk of his approval being delayed or blocked, Sam George was confident he had enough support in Parliament. He claimed that 49 members of the NPP caucus were prepared to defy their party leadership and vote in his favor.
“49 of their 88 members would have voted for me, and that’s why they chose to abstain. They knew they didn’t have the numbers,” he said.
