A deputy commandant of the of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps in Kogi State, Adam Yusuf has been arrested by operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.
Yusuf was arrested at his residence in Gwagwalada Area of the Federal Capital Territory over allegations of corruption.
In a statement issued on Friday, the spokesperson for the ICPC, Demola Bakare said the NSCDC’s deputy commandant had been evading authorities over sophisticated scheme allegedly orchestrated by a retired Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Usman Jibrin, alongside former Brigadier General Ishaya Bauka Gangum.
Bakare in the statement said the scheme – the diversion of over N3 billion of public funds through fictitious accounts – was uncovered by the ICPC.
According to Bakare, none of the accounts used for the suspected crime was registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
He said, “Further investigations led authorities to trace the laundered funds to companies such as Lahab Integrated and Gate Coast Properties, among others. The illicit proceeds were allegedly used to acquire over 18 properties, including multiple filling stations.
He added that four of the said properties have been forfeited to the government, while legal proceedings are ongoing regarding the rest.
Bakare also noted that the commission is reiterated its commitment to intensify efforts to track down other suspects still at large.
