Joyce Bawa defends Hardcastle, questions perception of ‘disrespect’

Joyce Bawa Mogtari, Special Adviser and Aide to President John Mahama has weighed in on the recent altercation between the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Commission, Emeafa Hardcastle, and Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh.

In a social media post on January 29, 2025, Bawa suggested that women who stand up for themselves are often unfairly labeled as disrespectful.

“Let me say without any fear of equivocation that most often than not when we stand up for ourselves we are called disrespectful!” she wrote.

Her remarks come amid ongoing public debate over Hardcastle’s confrontation with Annoh-Dompreh during a break in the Parliamentary Appointments Committee’s vetting session on January 28.

The dispute was sparked when Hardcastle reportedly referred to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) caucus as a “Micro-Minority,” a comment that the Nsawam-Adoagyiri MP took offense to.

The incident escalated into a heated exchange, drawing widespread reactions from political figures and social media users.

While some have criticised Hardcastle’s conduct as inappropriate, others, including Bawa, appear to frame the backlash as part of a broader societal tendency to silence assertive women.
