A video making the rounds on social media has thrust Ghana’s educational system into the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.
The footage, originally shared by GHOne on Twitter, captures a chaotic confrontation between students from Accra High School and Kinbu Senior High School.
In the clip, Accra High students are seen pursuing their opponent amidst shouts from onlookers, with tension palpable in the air.
Armed with makeshift weapons, the Accra High students appear to charge aggressively at their Kinbu counterparts, who are seen retreating in what looks like an overwhelming defeat.
The video, however, provides no background on what ignited the clash or whether anyone was injured during the altercation.
Such incidents of violence are becoming alarmingly familiar in Ghanaian schools. Rivalries that once found healthy expression on sports fields or debate stages now seem to spill over into acts of aggression.
For many, it’s a worrying reflection of the breakdown in discipline and the failure of existing structures to instill conflict-resolution skills in students.
