“You’ll pay for insulting Obasanjo” – Bode George threatens Tinubu’s aide

Former PDP Deputy National Chairman (South), Chief Bode George, has condemned recent remarks by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga against former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

George, speaking during an interview on Nigeria Info FM, criticized Onanuga for what he described as disrespectful and culturally unacceptable behaviour toward an elder statesman.

This comes after Obasanjo labelled the 2023 elections a “travesty” during the Chinua Achebe Leadership Forum at Yale University, sparking a heated exchange with Onanuga.

In response to Obasanjo’s comments on Nigeria’s status as a failing state and the need for credible electoral leadership, Onanuga accused the former president of hypocrisy, blaming his administration for current economic challenges.

However, George defended Obasanjo, stating that Yoruba cultural values demand respect for elders.

“An old man who could be Bayo Onanuga’s father said something, and you insult him. Even if you want to react, Yoruba culture does not allow such behaviour,” he said.

George also issued a warning to the presidential aide, saying: “Someday, he [Onanuga] will pay back because there will be a day after, and that’s more important.”
