Dr. Olumide Emmanuel has addressed the issue of wealth creation in marriage. When asked about the biblical perspective on a man providing for his household, Dr. Emmanuel clarified a common misinterpretation.
“When the Bible talks about a man not providing for his family, it’s referring to his own household—his immediate family,” he explained when he was hosted by Nedu Wazobia and his other panellists on Honest Brunch podcast monitored by MyNewsGh.
“If you have family and you’re not helping them, you are worse than an infidel.”
He further added that money is a tool for fulfilling purposes. “Money is nothing but a tool to fulfil a purpose.
You can’t drive three cars at once or sleep on more than one bed, so why let money create problems?”
Dr. Emmanuel stressed the importance of understanding money within marriage. Once two people come together as a couple, any income—whether from the man or the woman—is considered household income.
“Once you have become one, all money that comes into the family is our money,” he said.
Dr. Emmanuel emphasized that couples should not view their finances as separate. “It doesn’t matter who brings in the money.
“Whether the money comes through the man or the woman, it’s our household income,” he said, urging couples to focus on the collective well-being of their family instead of making wealth a point of contention.
