Ex-spokesman reacts to rumours of former VP Osinbajo leaving APC

Mr. Laolu Akande, a former spokesperson to ex-Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, has dismissed speculations that Osinbajo has exited the All Progressives Congress (APC) or stepped away from politics.

Speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Lagos, Akande clarified that there is no indication Osinbajo has left the APC or abandoned his political aspirations.

The former Vice President has kept a low profile since leaving office in 2023, leading to assumptions about his political future.

Osinbajo had contested the APC primary in 2022 but lost the presidential ticket to President Bola Tinubu.

Akande, however, stated that to the best of his knowledge, Osinbajo remains a member of the APC and would attend any party meeting requiring his presence.

“I don’t want to get the man [Osinbajo] involved in my own commentary, but there is no reason to think that he is no longer in the APC. He is still a member of the APC.

“If he gets an invitation to the caucus, you know, he will be there. I don’t think he has left the party,” Akande said.

Osinbajo, who recently took up a global advisory role with the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), has yet to make any public declaration about his political plans.
