Speaker of Parliament Alban Kingsford Bagbin has urged Members of Parliament to help clean the dirt associated with public service.
He believes that the perception of public service does not make it attractive, but by working together, they can change this perception and ensure that public service becomes attractive.
Alban Sumana Bagbin was speaking at a Thanksgiving event held at his residence in Accra on January 11, 2025.
“I know how you all struggled as members of Parliament to get back to Parliament. That thing is frightening, and we must, in this 9th parliament, clean all this dirt and make public service attractive. This one is so repulsive that people are getting frightened. Not just the energy but the resources you need to scale through to become a member of Parliament.
Now people are looking back and seeing former MPs are all in penury, and so when you are in office and have the trappings of the office, see whether they can even ride a bicycle. People have spoken to me about it and we need to do something about it as a country; that is part of resetting Ghana.
It’s not only His Excellency the President that is resetting Ghana; we in Parliament will also need to reset Ghana. There are a lot of things that I need to put in place and I know that’s one of the reasons why God made it possible for me to continue the second term,” he said.
