Esther Offei-Aboagye, Chairperson of the Integrated Social Development Centre (ISODEC), has shared her perspective on the incoming presidency of John Mahama, stressing that he has a rare opportunity to leave a lasting legacy due to the freedom that comes with having “nothing to lose.”
In a recent interview on Newsfile on JoyNews, Offei-Aboagye discussed the challenges and potential successes awaiting Mahama as he steps back into the role of president.
“I believe President Mahama, the incoming president, has a unique opportunity to leave a legacy because he has nothing to lose,” Offei-Aboagye remarked. “He has the freedom to make a definitive difference in several areas.
There are major lessons to be learned in managing expectations, as he is coming into office with enormous public expectations and a lot of goodwill.”
Her comments shed light on the public’s high hopes for Mahama as he takes on the leadership of the country once again. Having previously served as president from 2012 to 2017, Mahama returns to the presidency following the results of the 2024 elections.
Offei-Aboagye emphasized that the incoming president must navigate these expectations carefully, as there is significant goodwill and faith in his ability to lead effectively.
Offei-Aboagye, who has been a vocal advocate for social justice and development, went on to explain that Mahama’s leadership must focus on tangible, long-term improvements.
She believes that he has an opportunity to address pressing issues such as economic challenges, youth unemployment, and infrastructure development, which continue to affect millions of Ghanaians.
“Managing expectations will be critical,” she said, reflecting on the weight of public pressure. “It’s important to recognize that the public is placing high hopes on this administration, and it will take strategic action to not only meet but exceed those expectations.”
