Black Galaxies battle Nigeria in decisive 2025 CHAN qualifier in Uyo Today

Ghana’s Black Galaxies are priming to make a second successive appearance in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) with today’s  crucial second-leg against Nigeria at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

The tie, finely balanced after a goalless first leg in Accra, sees the Galaxies hold on to hope and assert their confidence in serving out a telling performance.

The Mas-Ud Didi Dramani-led side will therefore draw inspiration from their recent history against Nigeria in CHAN qualifiers. Just two years ago, Ghana defeated the Super Eagles in dramatic fashion, prevailing 5-4 on penalties after a 2-2 aggregate scoreline. That victory in Abuja, sealed under intense pressure, was a testament to how the Black Galaxies can rise to important occasions.

Dramani, however, has full confidence in his team getting the goals that will enable them to sail through, downplaying this first-leg result.

“We created far more chances and were unlucky not to score,” Dramani confidently said. “Saturday is another opportunity to get the goals and book our place in the CHAN finals. We are ready for the challenge.”

Ghana need a scoring draw or a win to go through, a scenario that goes down well with them. The Black Galaxies have shown composure and grit in high-pressure matches, and their experience in crucial fixtures could make the difference.

While Nigeria will be buoyed by the support of a raucous home crowd, the Galaxies are unperturbed. With a solid squad and fresh off the back of recent victory over their West African counterparts, Ghana will take to the pitch with belief and determination to win and secure qualification to the tournament to be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania in 2025.

A mouth-watering contest is at hand, but the Black Galaxies will hope to shine brighter in Uyo today.
