Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Obeng, the Ghanaian couple whose pre-wedding photos recently went viral, have shared the touching story behind their initial encounter and how they navigated the challenges of public judgment.
Their photos, which garnered both praise and harsh criticism, sparked an online conversation largely centered around their appearance.
Despite facing ridicule, the couple remains unfazed, focusing instead on the love they share and their journey together.
In an exclusive video segment with BBC Ghana, Isaac Obeng opened up about how he first met his wife, Agnes. He explained that their meeting was far from typical—it took place during an evangelistic mission he was involved in.
“I was doing my usual evangelism work when I met Agnes,” Isaac recounted. “I expressed my interest in her, and we exchanged contact information.
“At that time, she was already in a relationship, but she told me that her partner wasn’t serious about their commitment.”
Though their first encounter didn’t immediately spark romance, Isaac persisted in his pursuit. “At first, Agnes wasn’t responding to my calls.
“I was the one calling, but she wasn’t reciprocating,” Isaac laughed as he recalled the early days of their relationship.
“It wasn’t easy, but I kept trying. Over time, she started to warm up, and eventually, we began dating officially.”
The couple’s pre-wedding photographs, which were shared online by a friend, quickly became a topic of public discussion, often in a negative light. Isaac, who became the subject of several memes mocking his appearance, has faced an outpouring of online ridicule.
“People said all kinds of things, but we’ve learned not to let it bother us,” Isaac remarked. “What matters to us is that we found each other, and that’s the true beauty.”
Agnes also shared her thoughts on the online backlash. “I think the photos were shared by a friend who might have been envious of our happiness,” she said, her voice calm.
“But we understand that people’s opinions don’t define us. We know our worth, and we’re just happy to be together.”
