The Director of Legal Affairs of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Edudzi Tameklo, has shed light on the immense pressure former President John Dramani Mahama faced to stop investigations into allegations of corruption during his time in office.
Speaking on Key Points with Alfred Ocansey on TV3, Tameklo revealed that Mahama, despite the intense pressure, remained steadfast in his commitment to accountability.
“Mahama believed in accountability. He was resolute, even in the face of fierce opposition,” Tameklo said, emphasizing that the former president did not shy away from taking action against corruption within his administration.
According to Tameklo, Mahama’s leadership was rooted in the idea that public officials must be held accountable for their actions, no matter how powerful or influential they were.
Tameklo’s comments came at a time when the country’s focus is on ensuring transparency and responsibility within the government.
He noted that Mahama’s administration was a prime example of this value in practice, pointing to several instances where public officials were investigated and prosecuted for corrupt practices.
“This is the standard we should uphold, a standard of justice and transparency,” Tameklo stated.
