Their Knowledge Can’t Go To Waste, Nigerian Military Considers Engaging Retirees


The Nigerian Military has said that it is considering engaging the services of retirees who have acquired significant capabilities during the cause of their career.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, said the military is hold discussions with the Nigerian Government with regards to engagement of these retirees.

The CDS said this during a 2024 send-off cocktail party organised to honour 18 retired and retiring generals in Abuja on Friday, December 20.

According to Musa, the knowledge acquired by personnel during their services years should not be allowed to go to waste.

He said it is important that the government at all levels considered these retired officers for various appointments as he believes they would have great impact in the society even after retirement.

He said, Your retirement is not a retreat into oblivion but an opportunity to serve a greater cause in national development.

“I want to use this medium to announce that we are engaging with political leaders to ensure that the armed forces developed capacities and capabilities are not wasted.

“For those retiring, there are ongoing efforts to consider them for board appointments and other roles where they can contribute more, as we believe they will make a greater impact outside active service,” Musa said.

He further admonished the retiring personnel to remain prepared to serve the nation when called upon by the government.
