President-elect John Dramani Mahama has disclosed that Operation Recover All Loot is not a witch-hunting committee.
Rather, it is a team that will gather information and evidence of corrupt acts, after which the information will be processed and given to relevant state institutions to deal with them.
The president-elect indicated that since winning power, he has received several complaints via texts, calls, and through people who know him.
He, therefore, asked Ghanaians not to think the committee is a witch-hunting committee but a committee to gather information to help in the fight against corruption.
“I announced a preparatory team, and people are misunderstanding it. We are receiving a lot of information on things that are going wrong, on things, like corruption scandals, and all that. Some send me texts on my phone and some through other people. We want a focal point where all that evidence is directed and so that they can assemble all that evidence and once we come into office…ORAL is not going to investigate people; it is going to gather evidence and pass on that evidence to the government institutions that are supposed to do that kind of work.
We just want that if people have any information that is useful in the fight against corruption, they pass it to this team; that is what the team is about. They are all doing that service pro Bono, they are not expecting any payment, and there is no expenditure budget associated with the task they are carrying out and so that is the explanation for it. I don’t think that people should think it is a witch-hunting committee, they have no brooms to fly at night. I can assure people that it is not meant to witch hunt,” John Dramani Mahama said.
