Ghana’s Parliament is expected to sit today, December 16, 2024, after the general elections.
This meeting became possible after the speaker rejected a recall of Parliament by the New Patriotic Party caucus in November after Parliament had been adjourned sine die.
“The House will resume sitting after the elections to complete all essential matters before a seamless transition to the 9th Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana.
The National Interest would be better served if members exhibit conduct of honor, empathy, and humility in the performance of their duties.
In the circumstances, I am neither inclined nor disposed to exercise my discretion in favor of your request. THE REQUEST IS ACCORDINGLY DECLINED.”
The sitting is expected to take place at the Grand Arena, Accra International Conference Center.
It is not clear whether there will be controversies over the sitting arrangements, which has been an issue since November 2024.
Parliament is expected to see to seventeen bills laid before it and other important government business, including tax exemptions for designated beneficiaries under the one district, one factory program.
