Heavily armed police operatives have taken control of the Lagos Magodo Estate housing the law firm of Afe Babalola following widespread calls for the release of human rights lawyer, Dele Farotimi.
Farotimi, who was taken from Lagos to Ekiti State under the directives of legal luminary Afe Babalola, faces serious charges of cybercrime.
SaharaReporters reports that the police operatives are stationed at the Afe Babalola’s law firm in Lagos, in response to the #FreeDeleFarotimiNow protest.
Protests calling for his immediate release have been spreading, with demonstrations planned in key Nigerian cities, including Lagos, Ekiti, Abuja, and even abroad in London.
The protests have garnered significant attention, especially with support from prominent activists like Omoyele Sowore, who has used his platform to amplify the message of justice for Farotimi.
Recall that the Federal High Court in Ado-Ekiti granted Farotimi bail on December 9, 2024, with conditions including a N50 million surety and a guarantor with equivalent property value.
