The Cracks and Pains Are Deep

Outgoing Member of Parliament for Manso Nkwanta, Hon. George Obeng Takyi, has urged President Nana Akufo-Addo to prioritize reconciliation within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) before the end of his tenure.

His remarks come in the wake of the NPP’s crushing defeat in the 2024 general elections, a loss that has exposed deep divisions within the party.

Speaking with evident concern, Hon. Obeng Takyi stated, “President Akufo-Addo must as a matter of urgency call for reconciliation in the party before he leaves office.

The cracks and pains are deep.” His words reflect a somber acknowledgement of the fractures that have plagued the NPP, particularly following its contentious primaries and subsequent electoral failure.

The party’s defeat has led to widespread calls for introspection. Many party insiders and political analysts attribute the loss to unresolved tensions and favouritism during the primaries, which alienated key supporters and created factional divides.
