John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has pledged to arrest, prosecute and jail New Patriotic Party (NPP) executives who misled voters regarding the dates of the December 7th elections.
Addressing a crowd during his campaign today, Mahama criticized certain NPP members for deceiving Ghanaians about when the elections would take place. He assured the public that those responsible for spreading false information would be held accountable.
“What they did was crime. It was a criminal offence. But because their government is in power, they have faced no consequences. However, a criminal offence has no expiry date. If the NDC comes to power, we will arrest Nana B and others for their actions,” Mahama stated.
He further urged the crowd to vote for the NDC, emphasizing that any NPP officials guilty of corruption would be brought to justice.
This statement follows accusations against Nana B, the NPP’s National Organizer, who was accused of falsely claiming that the elections would be held on different days rather than on December 7th.
Mahama expressed his disappointment in Nana B, noting that as a lawyer, he should have been more responsible with his public statements.
“We know lawyers are expected to follow the law, so I was saddened to see the NPP’s National Organizer, Nana B, in a viral video misinforming the public about the upcoming elections.
He repeated the same falsehoods spread on Wontumi FM, claiming that voters on December 7th would only vote for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on that day.
It’s very disappointing, as lawyers are expected to be law-abiding and truthful. I urge him to correct his words and apologize. All Ghanaians will vote on the same day, December 7th,” Mahama concluded.
