Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has unveiled a state-of-the-art Electronic Gate (E-Gate) system at Kotoka International Airport (KIA), marking a significant milestone in Ghana’s quest for technological advancement in border management.
The E-Gate system, equipped with artificial intelligence, biometrics, and advanced data processing technology, promises to transform the travel experience, making it faster, more secure, and more efficient.
“Our E-GATE leverages cutting-edge technology such as artificial intelligence, biometrics, and a data processing system to create a frictionless travel experience,” Dr. Bawumia said during the launch. “With the ability to facilitate E-visas, Ghana is now prepared for the future of border management.”
The Vice President emphasized that this innovation underscores Ghana’s readiness to embrace the fourth and fifth industrial revolutions, reflecting the nation’s adaptability and ambition to remain at the forefront of global technological progress. Built by Ghanaians for Ghanaians, the E-Gates are a testament to the country’s ingenuity and serve as a symbol of national pride.
“These advancements reflect our readiness for the fourth and fifth industrial revolutions, ensuring adaptability for future innovation,” he noted. “These E-GATES are a symbol of national pride and ingenuity.”
Designed to streamline border control processes, the E-Gate system aims to improve turnaround times for arriving passengers while enhancing national security by curbing illegal entry attempts.
It automates the immigration process, minimizing delays and human errors, and ensures a seamless experience for law-abiding travellers.
Dr Bawumia highlighted that the system would benefit a diverse range of users, including travellers, members of the diaspora, and foreign visitors, enhancing their journey through Ghana.
“The new border control system and the E-GATE at the airport are designed to benefit a wide range of travellers and citizens, members of the diaspora, and visitors,” he added.
This development aligns with global trends as airports worldwide adopt advanced technologies to meet the demands of growing passenger traffic and heightened security concerns.
