NPP’s Rosemond Obeng Joins List of High Profile NPP-NDC Defections

Rosemond Obeng, a former national TESCON coordinator and assistant to NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has joined a list of defectors from NPP to NDC and vice versa after decamping to join the opposition NDC few days to election.

Rosemond Obeng who was reportedly close to the NPP Flagbearer has been on media campaign badmouthing her former boss after her defection to the opposition.

Rosemond Obeng joins the likes of Alhaji Inusah Issaka, Kakra Essamuah, Frances Essiam among other high profile figures to have switched allegiance between the two major parties in Ghana.

Appearing on GHOne’s “State of Affairs” program, Rosemond Obeng stated that based on her experience working with the NPP flagbearer, he lacks the courage and leadership qualities to steer Ghana’s affairs.

“We require crucial leadership, and I am aware that my father and former boss are unable to provide it. We get bad results, output, and performance from bad leadership,” she said.

Her “betrayal” has received backlash on social media.

In 2022, Rosemond posted on social media how her now former Boss Dr. Bawumia helped her to pursue further studies and expressed appreciation to him.

High profile defections

The former national women’s organiser of the National Democratic Congress, Frances Essiam, in 2005 announced her resignation from the party.

The decision followed an alleged assault on her by some party supporters at the national delegates’ congress of the NDC in Koforidua. She later joined the NPP.

The most high profile defection was when controversial Alhaji Inusah Issaka defected to the NDC after which he accused the NPP of rigging the 1996 elections.

Political analysts described him as a political prostitute after he served as Ex President Kufuor’s campaign manager in 1996.
