He must carry his own cross – MP Assafuah on Ofori-Atta’s predicament

Vincent Ekow Assafuah, the Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, has called for former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to face the consequences of his actions following the latest developments from the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

His remarks come at a time when Ofori-Atta has been officially declared a suspect in multiple corruption-related investigations, fueling intense public scrutiny.

Speaking in an interview on an unrelated matter, Assafuah was asked about his stance on the ongoing situation after Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng revealed that Ofori-Atta had left the country despite repeated invitations to return.

The OSP has since labeled him a fugitive, adding another layer of controversy to the already heated discourse surrounding the former minister’s dealings.

Assafuah made it clear that he had little sympathy for Ofori-Atta’s current predicament. “He must carry his own cross,” he asserted, reinforcing the view that the former minister should take responsibility for his actions.

The OSP’s investigation into Ofori-Atta spans four major corruption cases, including the National Cathedral project, dealings with Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML), and two other high-profile matters.

Addressing journalists at a press briefing on Wednesday, February 12, Agyebeng did not mince words, declaring Ofori-Atta a wanted man.

He further stressed that the former minister must return to Ghana immediately to assist with the investigations, warning that failure to do so would result in measures being taken to ensure his return.
