Free SHS is not delivering as it should – Wedad Sayibu

The Free SHS policy is not yet delivering as it should, according to Wedad Sayibu, Director of School for Life.

She pointed out key challenges facing the program, particularly regarding its financial sustainability and learning outcomes.

“There have been concerns about the quality of education under Free SHS and how sustainable the current financing model is. If we continue on this path without review, we risk facing serious challenges in the future,” she stated in an interview on Joy Prime monitored by MyNewsGH.

She stressed that while challenges are expected in the early stages of any policy, it is crucial for Ghana to assess and refine Free SHS to ensure its long-term viability.

“The call for dialogue is necessary so that we can shape the implementation process in a way that works for everyone,” she noted.

According to her, School for Life is working with stakeholders to facilitate discussions on improving Free SHS, ensuring that it delivers quality education while remaining financially sustainable.
