Government Spokesperson Felix Ofosu Kwakye has underscored the importance of maintaining experienced lawmakers in Parliament, despite arguments that some could have been made ministers.
“You can also not lose all your experienced hands in Parliament because someone needs to hold the fort,” he stated during an appearance on The Point of View on Channel One TV.
He pointed to key figures who have built their expertise in governance, stating, “Someone may argue that why was he not made a minister given all his qualifications, but eventually he became a Majority Leader—honourable, very experienced in finance and what have you.”
Reflecting on their past roles, he added, “He was one-time Deputy Finance Minister. One can argue that maybe he was primed to become a Finance Minister, but he’s now a Deputy Majority Leader. So honourable Zetor and others are fine materials by any measure. They’ve proven their competence.”
Ofosu Kwakye emphasized that governance requires flexibility, noting, “I think that there are other roles that they can play outside of government. Mind you, it’s a journey, so who is to say there won’t be changes along the line?”
He reassured that those in the executive understand their roles and contributions, adding, “I’m sure they understand that there are various roles that one can play in support of the President’s agenda.”
