Officials of Wesley Girls Senior High School in Cape Coast celebrated their 188th Anniversary hoping Ghana’s first female Vice President who is their old student will chair the event but the VP did not attend.
No official reason was given for the inability of the history-making Vice President to attend the important Wesley Girls Calender event but sources say the school and its old students did not associate with her candidature both in 2020 and 2024.
However, during the 188th anniversary event, the school and its controversial old girls association who distanced themselves from then candidate Prof Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang during the campaign period in 2020 and 2024 said they are “proud of to have produced Ghana’s first female Vice President”.
The old students association of the school who failed to show any form of solidarity with their old girl during the campaign also failed to release any statement of congratulations to her, even after she had won, a source in Jubilee House told this portal.
Addressing the crowd, the Headmistress of the school said they are proud of the former UCC Vice Chancellor who is a 1969 product of the school and was the School Prefect of her batch.
“A might trailblazer…. The first ever female Vice President of the Republic of Ghana attended no other school than the best of the best that is Wey Gey Hey. I am talking about the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Prof Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman. But for something she would have been here herself. She belongs to the class of 1969 that’s why the 1969 year group are here” she said.
Prof Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang had made multiple histories in her life, becoming Ghana’s first female Vice Chancellor and now Vice President. She has also been tipped as a possible first female President of the republic.
