The Council of State elections in the Ashanti Region were thrown into disarray on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, after chaos erupted at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, halting the process.
The confusion ensued after voting had been completed, with ‘machomen’ storming the premises and disrupting the counting process just as Electoral Commission (EC) officials were about to begin.
The intruders destroyed all the ballots, throwing the exercise into uncertainty.
A total of 86 delegates had cast their votes for the twelve candidates, eagerly awaiting the announcement of the winner when the disruption occurred.
The situation has raised concerns over the integrity of the elections, with calls for immediate intervention from the EC and security agencies to restore order and determine the way forward.
