It’s shocking that A-G couldn’t establish prima facie case in all these discontinued cases—Afia Pokua

Broadcast journalist Afa Pokua, has expressed shock at the decision of the government to discontinue all the corruption-related cases that were being tried in court.

She believes that at least the government could have established a prima facie case in one of the cases which were in court.

To her, the discontinuation of the cases will mean that a precedent has been set for other public officials to be engaged in things that will cause financial losses to the state because even if they are tried and sent to court, their political party will come and clear them.

“What even hurts me is the case of Saglemi. Collins Dauda is my uncle; I don’t joke with him, but there are people behind the Sagleme project. Before the NDC left power, $15,000 was released to the contractor. The contractor did not finish the work but came back to the ministry for more money even though he had not completed the first phase.

The Chief Director alone reviewed the contract and disbursed money, and when the case was ongoing, the Chief Director died. As the case was still ongoing, the contractor too died. We should find out how the Chief Director was able to review the contract alone and pay such a huge sum of money. The way we are moving Ghana, people will not respect the rule of law again.

The Attorney General must explain to the people of Ghana that the cases have been discontinued. What will be happening now is that the NPP people who will be sent to court will also delay the cases and when their government comes back to power, they will be freed. It is just sad that such monies, which could have been used to construct roads has been spent by some people,” she said.
