‘I’m ready to face the law’ – Annoh-Dompreh defends controversial call to NPP supporters

The Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Nsawam/Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has stated that he is prepared to face legal consequences if charged with inciting violence.

His remarks come in the wake of widespread criticism following his call for New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters in Ablekuma North to stand by their fellow party members during confrontations with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

During a gathering of NPP supporters at a meeting with the party’s parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North, Akua Afriyie, Annoh-Dompreh reportedly urged party members to take action when confronted by their political opponents.

“If indeed you are a member of the NPP and you see your fellow party member fighting a member of the NDC, join your party member to beat the NDC member,” he told the crowd.

He also accused the NDC of deliberately disrupting the Electoral Commission’s (EC) collation process and warned that the NPP would not tolerate any further delays.

His comments have sparked outrage, with critics accusing him of inciting political violence. Some have even called for his prosecution.

However, speaking in an interview with Bullet TV, Annoh-Dompreh dismissed the backlash and insisted that he was unfazed by any legal action.

“Wherever they want to take me, I am ready. I am waiting for the NIB or whoever. They say they want to take me to court because I have instigated people to resort to violence. I am ready,” he stated.

Despite the strong condemnation, the MP denied that he was encouraging violence. When asked whether his comments were necessary, he stood by his words.

“It was. We can’t sit back and allow our base to be destroyed. Our party members are crying; they go to the police station, and there is no defense. In some parts of the Ashanti Region, Bibiani or so, I am told that NDC hooligans have gone to attack an entire police station,” he claimed.
