Businessman Gabriel Atokple Kwamigah Tanko has been elected as the Volta Region’s representative on the Council of State after securing 24 out of 36 votes in the election held at the OLA Senior High School Assembly Hall on February 11, 2025.
The keenly contested race featured 13 candidates, but Tanko emerged as the clear winner with a significant margin. Voting, which was delayed due to initial disagreements, eventually began at 9:50 AM and proceeded without further interruptions.
Speaking after his victory, Tanko expressed his commitment to driving development in the Volta Region by leveraging its economic potential. However, some candidates have raised concerns, alleging that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) influenced the voting process.
