Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor has dismissed concerns raised by the Minority regarding the Speaker of Parliament’s decision on an ad hoc committee’s work, stating that parliamentary processes are inherently partisan.
The South Dayi MP emphasized that the Speaker has the authority to make such rulings and that the Minority’s complaints should be taken in context.
“You see, this Minority must be careful about the things they say. I was in Parliament that day; my suspension had just been lifted. I listened on radio, and I heard the Speaker say the committee would continue its work,” he said on TV3’s Hot Issues monitored by MyNewsGH.
He added that parliamentary committees are always formed along party lines, making it unrealistic to expect nonpartisan decisions. “Everything in Parliament is partisan. That’s why even committee formation is based on party representation. If anyone thinks otherwise, they are mistaken.”
On allegations that the committee chairperson had shown bias in media interviews, Dafeamekpor admitted he hadn’t heard the remarks but argued that parliamentary processes allow for complaints to be raised at the appropriate time.
“If his conduct is seen as unfair, it’s a matter they can raise. But for now, we must allow the committee to work,” he said, emphasizing that such concerns could be addressed when the final report is submitted.
