No indiscipline, just logistical issues – Dafeamekpor on missing majority MPs

The absence of many Majority MPs in Parliament has raised concerns, but South Dayi MP Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor has attributed it to logistical challenges rather than indiscipline.

He explained that the situation is largely due to newly elected MPs settling into their roles, handling office relocations, and addressing accommodation issues in an interview on TV3’s Hot Issues

“The numbers that are not coming have been largely on the majority side. The explanation I got to know is that some have relocated their offices, some too are trying to sort out their accommodation matters,” Dafeamekpor said, dismissing claims that the absences reflect a lack of commitment.

He further pointed out that with 81 new MPs adjusting to life in Accra, the transition period has been difficult for many, even for those who have lived in the capital their whole lives.

Reflecting on his own experience, he noted, “When I came to Parliament in January 2017, things were tough and I encountered colleagues who were even raised and lived in Accra but didn’t find it easy…there are logistical difficulties.”

Despite the current situation, Dafeamekpor reassured Ghanaians that the issue would soon be resolved. “I can assure that from the end of this month, things will stabilize, people will have their offices, attendance will be better, residential issues will be resolved,” he stated.
