Boxing Officials Need More Education And Encouragement – Coach Frank Addo
Coach Frank Addo, a member of the Technical Staff of the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF) has commended the Federation for trying to organise courses for boxing officials.
Recently a number of amateur referees / judges were schooled on new developments in the sport by the IBA and he feels it is in the right direction.
Frank Addo who works with the Wisdom Boxing Club said every time new ideas and strategies are coming up in sports especially boxing to make it safer and competitive.
“I started having interest in boxing while staying with Coach Dr. Asare and as a kid I peep through his window to watch boxing on his television, the man was always showing boxing, no wonder he knows the game”
The one star coach said he is hoping to upgrade himself to star two and prays that the government will support officials who wish to further education.
He said some of the courses are held outside and one has to travel and pay for accommodation and others to participate which is not easy.
“Sports officials need to be abreast with modern rules, regulations and conventions not to be left behind and complain of cheating” he told Yours Truly on Omashi TV.
He was of the view that Ghana is blessed with many talents unlike some nations.
He also appealed to corporate entities to support sports organisations, especially boxing gyms.
“Boxing is our number one sport so the government and companies should invest and help us” he expressed.
Frank Addo gave much credit to head Coach Dr. Ofori Asare for his coaching development since 2009, and thanked other staff at the Wisdom Boxing Club for their contribution to the growth of the gym which has produced many national team boxers, and current fantastic boxers like Theo ‘Lopez ‘ Allotey, Haruna ‘Thunder’ Mohammed and Nana Clinton.
