Appeal Court Upholds Proscription of IPOB as Terrorist Organisation

The Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, has reaffirmed the proscription of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as a terrorist organization.

This decision upholds the January 18, 2018 order by Justice Abdu Kafarati of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

A three-member panel of justices, led by Justice Hamma Barka, unanimously agreed that the Federal Government acted within its powers in proscribing IPOB.

The court held that the group’s activities posed a significant threat to the nation’s continued existence and the security of its citizens.

In dismissing the appeal, Justice Barka resolved all the issues raised by IPOB against the Federal Government, declaring the appeal unmeritorious.
