The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced its immediate withdrawal from all platforms operated by Media General.
This decision, outlined in a statement signed by the party’s Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, follows ongoing concerns regarding alleged bias and unprofessionalism in the media group’s political coverage.
The statement reveals that the NPP has been in discussions with Media General since 2023 to address issues of perceived unfair treatment, such as unbalanced panel discussions, disruptive hosting, and repeated attacks on prominent party figures. However, the party claims that these concerns have not been adequately addressed despite assurances of reform.
The NPP pointed to a specific incident during a program hosted by Keminni Amanor, where a guest made inflammatory remarks about former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. The party accused the host of failing to intervene and condoning the comments.
Furthermore, the statement highlighted political shows like Key Points and Newday, which the NPP claims regularly feature panels skewed in favour of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), with NPP representatives often outnumbered.
“Despite repeated assurances since 2023, the observed unprofessionalism and unfairness persist,” the statement read. The NPP also expressed frustration that their efforts to advocate for more balanced and objective coverage have been disregarded.
In closing, the party reassured its members and the public that this withdrawal is in response to the ongoing issues that have not been resolved by Media General.
