Information Ministry is essential; reconsider decision to scrap it—Foh Amoaning to Mahama

Private legal practitioner Moses Foh Amoaning has expressed concerns over President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to scrap the Information Ministry.

In his bid to reduce the number of ministries in fulfilment of his promise of running a lean government, President John Dramani Mahama has scrapped the Information Ministry.

Unlike other ministries that have been added to other ministries, the Information Ministry is now extinct.

But speaking on Accra-based Onua FM, Moses Foh Amoaning pleaded with the president to reconsider the decision to scrap the information ministry.

“The very important one they have left out is the information ministry. Now communication is technical and has moved away from just information. If we give the country to the government to manage, any management scientist will tell you that marketing communication is an essential tool of management. Whatever you’re doing, you must tell the people and get them to understand what it is. The President doesn’t have the option because if you’re resetting the country, the information ministry is essential and needs to be brought back,” he said.

Adding that “if you look at the communication and information technology, it is now different from information. The work Ursula Owusu was doing was far different from what Oppong Nkrumah was doing. They will agree with me that they need the Information Ministry. You can ask the NPP and they will tell you that they fell because of the lack of Information so the President needs this ministry to be able to sell what he and his government is doing for the people of Ghana,”.
