Tension as Gunmen Invade Edo Governorship Tribunal Venue

There was widespread panic at the venue of the Edo State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal on Wednesday, January 15, when some gunmen invaded the location.

The Nation reports that lawyers, politicians and other individuals at the premises of the Justice Wilfred Kpochi-led, three-member tribunal scampered for safety from the rain of bullets.

However, it was gathered that the fully armed security operative guarding the area restored calm and the tribunal continued its sitting.

Condemning the incident, the Edo State chairman of the All Progressives Congress  (APC), Jarret Tenebe described such act as deeply disturbing.

He said: “The tribunal is a sacred space, where justice is meant to be administered impartially. Any act of violence within its walls undermines the very foundation of our legal system and threatens the safety of all involved.

“Regardless of political affiliation, resorting to violence to resolve disputes is never justifiable. We must all condemn the shootings in the strongest possible terms,” Tenebe added.

He further called for civility among politicians alike and called on security operatives to ensure the perpetrators are apprehended and made to face justice.
