Election wins are about failures, not just efforts – PV Jantuah Dadson

PV Jantuah Dadson, a former presidential aide during John Dramani Mahama’s administration, has shared his insights during a discussion with media personality Akoto Mansa.

The conversation centred on the outcome of the recent presidential and parliamentary elections and the political trajectory of former President Mahama.

Akoto Mansa began the dialogue with a note of congratulations. “Your party’s return to governance is commendable,” she said, before delving into a thought-provoking question.

“Would you attribute this success to the effectiveness of your campaign, or do you think the New Patriotic Party simply handed over the reins by their shortcomings?”

Jantuah Dadson responded with characteristic humility. “The truth is,” he began, “neither of our major political parties can claim to have ascended to power purely by their achievements.

More often than not, it is the failures of the ruling party that drive voters to make a change.”

He also noted that this dynamic has remained constant over Ghana’s democratic journey.

According to Jantuah, pressing issues such as the high cost of living, corruption, economic instability, and widespread unemployment are pivotal in shaping voters’ choices. “These are not new challenges,” he remarked.

“The real test for any government is how effectively it can address them. Failure to do so leaves the electorate disillusioned and eager for change.”

Jantuah stressed that the electorate’s decisions often hinge on how well a government’s policies resonate with the public and alleviate their difficulties.

“If the people feel a genuine improvement in their lives, they will reward the government with their trust. On the other hand, failing to address these hardships results in a swift loss of faith and power,” he added.
