Assafuah urges voters to recognize the value of experienced MPs for sustained development

Vincent Ekow Assafuah has reiterated the critical need for legislators to remain in office to maximize their ability to effect meaningful change.

According to the Member of Parliament for Old-Tafo, the practical experience gained over time is vital for MPs to enhance their skills and become more effective advocates for their constituents.

In an interview with Asaase Radio monitored by MyNewsGH, Assafuah spoke passionately about the need for voters to consider the long-term impact of electing the same MPs in successive elections.

“When MPs serve for multiple terms, they build up the experience that helps them understand how to navigate the complexities of lawmaking and represent their people more effectively,” Assafuah explained.

“It’s through this experience that MPs improve their skills, their networks, and their understanding of the issues that matter most to their constituents.”

He countered the common argument that new candidates bring fresh perspectives, emphasizing that continuity in leadership is far more beneficial.

“I’ve heard it said that voters want to bring in new faces to introduce fresh viewpoints, but this is often short-sighted,” Assafuah asserted.

“A seasoned MP has a deeper understanding of both the political landscape and the specific needs of their community. That expertise and familiarity cannot be replicated easily by someone new to the job.”
