During his swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, newly inaugurated President John Dramani Mahama made a light-hearted slip of the tongue while acknowledging the dignitaries present at the Black Star Square in Accra.
As Mahama warmly addressed the crowd, he mistakenly referred to Nigerian President Bola Tinubu as “Your Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, president of the Federal Republic of Ghana.”
This minor misstatement quickly gained traction on social media, with many Nigerians humorously engaging with the gaffe.
“Looks like Mahama is ready to swap presidents,” some jokingly remarked, while others playfully offered to lend their president to Ghana for a while.
The lighthearted exchange reflects the friendly relationship between the two West African nations, which has long been marked by collaboration and mutual respect.
Mahama, who is no stranger to the political stage, has made a significant return to the presidency after stepping down in 2017 following a loss to current President Nana Akufo-Addo.
