Mahama lauds Bawumia’s role in ensuring peaceful transition of power

President John Dramani Mahama lauded the outgoing Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for his early concession in the aftermath of Ghana’s fiercely contested 2024 elections.

“Your early concession was not only a demonstration of your statesmanship but also an act that contributed immensely to reducing tensions across the nation,” President Mahama declared during his inaugural speech at the Black Star Square.

The vibrant ceremony, attended by dignitaries, international guests, and thousands of Ghanaians, marked a pivotal moment in the country’s democratic history. Mahama’s remarks came as part of his broader message calling for reconciliation and collaboration in moving Ghana forward.

“In times of political contest, it is easy for tempers to flare, but your decision to concede swiftly helped guide us through a critical period in Ghana’s democratic journey,” he continued, his tone filled with gratitude and respect.

Dr. Bawumia’s concession, made soon after the election results were declared, was widely praised for setting a tone of peace and civility. This gesture not only reaffirmed Ghana’s democratic values but also ensured a smooth transition of power, avoiding potential unrest.
