It will be unwise for NPP Minority to nominate a candidate for speakership—Joe Wise

Member of Parliament for Bekwai, Joe Osei Owusu, has advised that the Minority in the 9th Parliament must not present a candidate for the Speakership position.

He is of the view that there won’t be any value in presenting a candidate for the speakership position in the 9th Parliament.

Joe Osei-Owusu believes that to be heard, the Minority in the 9th Parliament will have to approach things differently than it has happened in the past, indicating that choosing to compete won’t do them any good.

Joe Wise as he is popularly called, was speaking on Accra-based Joy News when he made this known.

“I am not sure that it will be appropriate or it will be wise to put up any candidate. If my view were asked or sought, I would never make any such recommendation. I think our approach to our work in Parliament should differ. Our approach should be different from what has happened in the past,” he said in an interview on Joy News, monitored by MyNewsGh.com.

Explaining further, he indicated, “I do not think that any value can be gained from presenting a candidate. I think that we should use a different approach to be heard on the floor of the house, not necessarily getting into competition; it will be pointless. Our approach should not be focusing on competing on the floor of the house. There is nothing to be gained in that exercise.”
