Actor-turned-politician John Dumelo, the MP-elect for Ayawaso West Wuogon, has shared a heartfelt tribute to his late father, Engineer John William Kudzo Anato-Dumelo Snr.
In a deeply personal post, Dumelo recounted his final moments with his father, who passed away unexpectedly at the age of 75, just days before his swearing-in ceremony.
“At age 75, you lived your life well,” Dumelo began. “Yesterday, you called me several times to come see you. We sat on the bed and spoke at length about politics, life, farming, and business—and of course, we gossiped.”
Dumelo shared how his father had been a constant source of support and wisdom throughout his life. Reflecting on their conversation, he revealed that his father had urged him to serve diligently in his new political role.
“You told me specifically to serve diligently in government,” Dumelo wrote, his words laced with emotion.
The tribute took a heartbreaking turn as Dumelo recounted how his father’s passing unfolded just minutes after they parted ways.
“Ten minutes after I left your house, I was called that you were not being responsive. I came back, we rushed you to the hospital, and you were gone,” Dumelo shared, capturing the devastating reality of losing a loved one so suddenly.
Despite the grief, Dumelo expressed profound gratitude for his father’s unwavering support and guidance throughout his journey, both in his acting career and now as a public servant.
“Thanks for being my father, thanks for being my best friend, thanks for being my number one cheerleader, and thanks for everything you did for me,” he wrote, adding, “Say hi to mum for us all…we will miss you.”
Dumelo’s tribute struck a chord with many, as followers and colleagues flooded his social media with messages of condolence and support.
This emotional moment comes at a pivotal time for the newly elected MP, who is set to be sworn into office in three days.
