Bawumia’s Ghana card claims are hollow – Mzbel speaks out after being stranded

Veteran singer and radio personality Mzbel has reignited discussions about the utility of the Ghana Card following a frustrating travel experience.

The outspoken supporter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) criticized the card, often touted by outgoing Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as a pivotal identification tool, after she was denied its use in resolving a travel hiccup.

In a video shared on social media, Mzbel recounted her ordeal while attempting to return to Ghana from an undisclosed location with her two children.

She revealed that she had misplaced her purse containing her passport and other crucial documents. Despite presenting her Ghana Card, officials refused to grant her clearance to board the flight back to Ghana.

“I was left stranded because they told me the Ghana Card wasn’t enough for the necessary processes. How does that even make sense when it’s supposed to be our ultimate form of identification?” she questioned, her frustration palpable.

Mzbel further explained that her pleas to the authorities fell on deaf ears, forcing her to contact the Ghanaian embassy for assistance.

The incident, she noted, highlighted glaring inefficiencies in the system and undermined the claims made by Dr. Bawumia, who had championed the card as a game-changer during his tenure.

“This is the same card that Bawumia said could be used for everything. So why couldn’t I use it in a situation like this? It’s no surprise he lost so badly in the elections,” Mzbel said, referencing Dr. Bawumia’s significant defeat in the 2024 NPP presidential primaries.
