You serve all Ghanaians, not just a party – Kojo Yankah advocates inclusive governance

Former Member of Parliament for Agona East and a respected voice in Ghanaian politics, Kojo Yankah has called for a shift away from entrenched partisanship in the country’s governance.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Thursday, January 2, Yankah emphasized the importance of national unity, particularly for government appointees serving in various regions.

“I do not like the situation where people go to a region and say that I belong to this party,” Yankah remarked, highlighting the divisive impact of partisan affiliations on local governance.

He expressed concern that representatives of the president in districts and regions often prioritize party loyalty over their broader mandate to serve all citizens.

“I think people should see themselves as Ghanaians, particularly when you go to a district or a region as representative of the president; the whole region is yours,” he added.

“You didn’t go to the region to do party matters; leave that to the party hierarchy.”

Yankah, who has long been an advocate for unity and inclusive governance, stressed the need for appointees to rise above political affiliations and foster cohesion among the people they serve.

“The point is that you must see yourself as a Ghanaian privileged to serve in a region where it’s your principal duty to bring all the people together,” he urged.
