Vice President for Policy Think Tank, IMANI Africa, Kofi Bentil, is of the view that market fires are becoming a tradition in Ghana.
Parts of the Kantamanto market have been razed down by fire.
The fire, which cause is not readily known, started around 1 am on Thursday, January 2, 2024, has razed down over 100 stores in the area.
The Ghana Fire Service is currently working to douse the fire and avoid recording any casualties.
Touching on recent market fires, Kofi Bentil indicated that it’s becoming a worrying feature of the country when market fires are recorded each year.
Making his position known in a post on social media, he said “Kantamanto is burning again. It’s now an annual affair. If something happens consistently in a society it’s not an accident, it’s culture! We have a culture of annual Market fires and bad street lights. God Help Prez. JM to change it!“.
