Former Ghana’s captain and most prolific player, Asamoah Gyan, has sparked a wave of conversation after a raw and emotional Instagram Live session that unveiled his struggles, including a fractured relationship with former teammate Prince Tagoe and a painful political betrayal.
Gyan, who is no stranger to the spotlight, has always been known for his on-field exploits.
However, in recent times, he has increasingly become a figure of public interest off the pitch—especially when it comes to his interactions with fellow players and political figures.
During the live session, Gyan opened up about his complex relationship with Prince Tagoe, a former Black Stars teammate.
Despite the tension that once existed between them, Gyan shared that the rift was largely due to external influences. “
Prince was brainwashed by people who said bad things about me. We didn’t see eye to eye back then, but I know now he’s a good person with a good heart,” Gyan revealed, reflecting on their past conflicts.
He even shared how their recent long phone conversation had helped them rebuild their bond.
However, it was not just the Tagoe situation that seemed to weigh heavily on Gyan.
The footballer-turned-activist also discussed his disillusionment with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), a political party with which he had once allied himself. “
The NPP used me, and now they’ve turned me into a villain,” Gyan explained tearfully. His frustration was evident as he spoke about the party’s manipulation and the backlash he received from the public.
